Kosovo Citizens Advised not to Travel to Egypt

Pristina, 2 February 2011 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo is closely monitoring the latest developments in Egypt and advises the citizens of Kosovo who are staying in Egypt to return to the country.

In the absence of established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Egypt, Kosovo MFA is closely watching the situation by means of utilizing its diplomatic channels via neighboring countries. According to gathered information, we understand that in Egypt, and mainly in its capital Cairo, presently stay some 30 citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, who are all well and intact in the newly created circumstances.

Those Kosovo citizens have regrouped and have very limited possibilities for movement. As most of them are students, some have already joined fellow students from other countries, whereas the others have regrouped across the neighborhoods of Cairo.

Two Kosovo citizens, who are studying in Cairo, were evacuated with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Albania. Last night, assisted by the staff from the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Tirana, they returned to Kosovo.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo advises Kosovo citizens not to travel to Egypt, and suggest to those who are already staying in Egypt to return to the country.
