Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi commenced official meetings in Tokyo with the Japanese Parliamentary Group

Tokyo, 14 April 2014 - Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi head of Kosovo delegation, during his official visit to Japan, began with official meetings in Tokyo with Japanese Parliamentary Group, Mr. Ruy Shionoya, Minister of Justice Mr. Sadakazu Tanigaki, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Takao Makino and Deputy-President for the House of Representatives Mr. Seishiro Eto.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Thaçi thanked the Japanese government for assisting Kosovo in the post-war period of reconstruction as well as continued contribution of Japan, which recognized the independence in the first days after the declaration.

Prime Minister Thaçi spoke about the opportunities and facilitations that Kosovo provides to foreign investments and invited Japanese investors to invest in Kosovo in all fields of economy.

Also, Prime Minister Thaçi informed senior Japanese officials about the negotiation process in Brussels, conclusion of agreement and implementation phases of the Agreement. Kosovo is playing an important role in building peace and regional stability, said Mr. Thaçi.

Prime Minister Thaçi requested assistance from Japanese officials, in those countries they have influence, to help Kosovo`s membership in important international organizations.

At the same time, Prime Minister Thaçi asked from Japan to support the participation of Kosovo in the international arena in all areas of sports, in friendly and official matches within UEFA and FIFA.

Kosovo's strategic goal is EU, NATO and UN membership, said Prime Minister Thaçi.

Kosovo Prime Minister asked from Japanese parliament members to influence Japan to lift visa requirements for citizens of Kosovo, diplomats, students and businessmen’s.

Also, Prime Minister Thaçi informed the delegation regarding creation of a parliamentary group for promoting bilateral relations between Japan and Kosovo.

Japanese delegation expressed gratitude and appreciated Prime Minister Thaçi`s visit, the stance of the Government of Kosovo, as well the detailed information on developments in Kosovo.

Head of the host Delegation, Mr. Ruy Shionoya, among others, said that the Japanese government and parliament will examine the possibility of conducting friendly matches between the teams of two countries and expressed confidence that Kosovo will be invited to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Members of the Japanese delegation stressed out that they will engage in increasing the economic cooperation between Japan and Kosovo.

Japan will support peace and stability in the region, will strengthen political and economic cooperation, and will consider the access of the Republic of Kosovo to soft loans – it was said during meeting.
