Deputy Minister Teuta Sahatqija Invites Japanese to Invest in KosovoPrishtina / Tokyo, 27 October 2020 - With the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo (MFAD), the Kosovo-Japanese Friendship Association organised a virtual discussion on the "Friendship between Kosovo and Japan". On behalf of the MFAD, Deputy Minister Teuta Sahatqija, as co-host of this event, welcomed the participants and thanked Japan for its contribution to Kosovo during these years, and especially for the recent donation to manage COVID-19 pandemic. On this occasion Deputy Foreign Minister Mrs. Sahatqija invited Japanese investors to consider Kosovo as a potential investment destination.
As keynote speaker, Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi addressed this virtual discussion with a message who inter alia said that Kosovo considers Japan as Kosovo's strategic partner in East Asia. He said that it’s time for both, institutions and people of our respective countries, to further deepen the bilateral and economic relations.
Then the Honorary General Consul of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Iijima Isao, and the Chairman of the Japan-Kosovo Friendship League in the Parliament of Japan, Mr. Shionoya Ryu, took the floor from Tokyo. Both of them congratulated the opening of the Embassy of Japan in Prishtina and wished for more progress, prosperity and health for the people of Kosovo in such time of the coronavirus pandemic.
Former Kosovar ambassadors to Japan - Mr. Sami Ukelli, Mr. Ahmet Shala and Mr. Leon Malazogu, and former Japanese ambassadors to Kosovo - Mr. Makoto Taketoshi and Mr. Koinuma Kiyoshi, were part of this virtual discussion as well. They all shared their best experiences and gave recommendations for the future of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Mrs. Luljeta Arifi, Director and Founder of the Kosovo-Japanese Friendship Association appreciated the contribution of the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Japan and MFAD for the support in conducting this important activity aiming at bring two countries and respective people closer to each other. This activity was also greeted by Mr. Korab Mushkolaj - Head of the Department for Bilateral Relations at the MFAD and Mr. Enis Xhemaili - Charge d’Affairs ad Interim at the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Tokyo.
This was the first edition of the "Getting to know better Japan and Kosovo through sharing the experiences" project. The second edition will highlight the education and the third one is about the assistance and aid of Japan to Kosovo.
