Kosovo and Belgium sign the agreement on social securityBrussels, 20 february 2018 Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, Skender Reçica met his homologue Ms. Maggie de Block, Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health. During the meeting, Ministers signed a bilateral agreement on social security. This agreement will replace the current agreement, inherited from the SFRY and Belgium. The agreement allows access to the social security in both countries to their citizens if they have worked partially in Belgium or Kosovo.
Minister Reçica considers this agreement as an historic one, as it’s the first social security agreement signed by the Republic of Kosovo. This agreement indicates the excellent relationship and cooperation between Kosovo and Belgium. Minister De Block recalled that Belgium was among the first countries to recognize the independence of the Republic of Kosovo. Whereas, the signature of this agreement on the 10th anniversary makes it even more notable. The agreement on social security will be presented to the Belgian and Kosovar legislatures for ratification.
